Skills Food Drive

WARWICK, RI -- Students from the Warwick Area Career & Technical Center collected over 3,000 non-perishable food items during the month of November  to support neighbors in need this holiday season.

As a career and technical high school, WACTC is an active competitor in Skills USA. SkillsUSA is a national student organization for career preparation. All WACTC students are enrolled in SkillsUSA, providing students with opportunities to learn workplace related skills that will serve them well, regardless of what kind of career they pursue. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers, and industry representatives that helps each student to excel while preparing them for careers in technical, skilled, and service occupations, and for further education.

The Skills USA Student Leadership Team at WACTC coordinated the recent food drive and helped to distribute food that was gathered to local pantries. The next major charity initiative undertaken by the students is a winter clothing drive to support the students at Oakland Beach Elementary School, a Title 1 School, in Warwick.
